The importance of ECMO, along with renal replacement therapies like PD, HD or CRRT has gained central importance while managing COVID-19 patients on mechanical ventilation in the ICU. The ECMO machine replaces the function of the heart and lungs. Typically, people are supported by an ECMO machine for only a few hours to days, but may require it for a few weeks, depending on how their condition progresses. We have great stories of survival due to ECMO but the lung recovery following COVID-19 still remains questionable.

Objectives:

Upon conclusion of this module, participants should be able to understand:

  • Indications of Dialysis and ECMO
  • Preparation and care of patient on HD, PD and ECMO
  • Antepartum Management of Confirmed Pregnant Corona Positive Case
  • Pathophysiology and management of DKA
  • Introduction and Managing ECMO Machine
